Benemid (Probenecid)

Benemid is used in the treatment of chronic gout or gouty arthritis. These conditions are caused by too much uric acid in the blood.

Use Benemid as directed by your doctor.

• Take tablets Benemid a mouth.
• Swallow of tablets with a drink of water.
• Take your dozes in regular intervals.

Benemid works by removing the extra uric acid from the body. Benemid does not cure gout, but after you have been taking it for a few months it will help prevent gout attacks. Benemid will help prevent gout attacks only as long as you continue to take it.

Store Benemid at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Benemid out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Do not use Benemid if:

• You have an allergy on any component in Benemid;
• You have problems of blood or the stones caused by a uric acid;
• The patient - the child, is younger than 2 years of age;
• You take ethers of a salicylic acid (for example, aspirin).

• Benemid can cause dizziness. Do not conduct, operate machines, or do something, that could be dangerous, while you do not know, how you react on Benemid. Using Benemid one, with assured other medicines, or with alcohol can reduce your ability to conduct or carry out other potentially dangerous problems.
• Before you have any medical or dental processings, extreme care, or surgery, speak the doctor or the dentist, that you use Benemid.

Benemid is to be used only by the patient for whom it is prescribed. Do not share it with other people.
